During a visit to Nashville, Chef Johnny Ray Zone was introduced to a local spicy fried chicken specialty, Nashville hot chicken, and instantly fell in love with the dish. Following his return to LA, in June of 2015, Johnny and wife Amanda Chapman opened the first exclusively Nashville Hot Chicken food truck on the west coast. In April 2016, Howlin' Ray's first brick & mortar location opened in Chinatown LA and as of 2022, their second location opened in Pasadena!
